Chlorodehydromethyltestosterone (Turinabol) is an anabolic–androgenic steroid. It is the 4-chloro-substituted derivative of metandienone (Dianabol). This substitution eliminates the potential for estrogenic side effects and reduces the androgenic activity. It is also less anabolic than its more popular counterpart. This gives this compound the ability to produce a lower androgenic to anabolic ratio at any given dose.
Turinabol gained popularity in the 1990s when it was revealed that it was behind the East German Doping Machine.
After the scandal the manufacturer discontinued production of Turinabol in 1994 and it has not been widely manufactured for prescription use since. The safety profile and low androgenic/anabolic ratio makes it still a desirable compound in the bodybuilding and fitness community.
